Dr. Mark Hughes is board-certified in Gastroenterology. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He completed an Internship and Residency at the University of Arkansas and completed a Gastrointestinal (GI) Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Hughes is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
After 17 years of private practice in his hometown of Frankfort, Kentucky, Dr. Hughes and his family moved to Florida in 2012 when he joined Health First. Dr. Hughes’s office is located in Viera and he providers GI services to the patients at Health First’s Viera Hospital. He treats a variety of diseases including inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis as well as other diseases such as reflux and Barrett’s Esophagus. He is involved with Bravo ph monitoring and esophageal manometry at Health First’s Viera Hospital.

Dr. Hughes performs procedures to ablate Barrett’s Esophagus and treats a variety of liver diseases, including Hepatitis C. He is committed to educating the community about colorectal cancer detection and prevention. He was a member of the Governor’s Commission on Colon Cancer in Kentucky and he often lectures about the disease to the public.

In his spare time, Dr. Hughes enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. His hobbies include golf, reading and snow skiing.
