Dr. Rashid was raised in Pakistan, and from a young age planned to pursue a career in the medical field. He attended one of the oldest and top-ranked medical universities in Pakistan – University of Punjab. He was a merit scholar throughout medical school. After completing Medical School, Dr. Rashid conducted his residency at the New Britain General Hospital affiliated with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, which is currently known as the Hospital of Central Connecticut. While there he received the John Lazar Aware in Medical Humanities. Once he entered his gastroenterology rotation, he loved it and selected that discipline as his medical focus.

For five years Dr. Rashid taught gastroenterology at the University of Arkansas, where he received the Red Sash Award for most significant contribution in teaching for two consecutive years. His university teaching was followed by two years of private practice with a gastroenterology group in Moline, IL. He, his wife and two children then moved to Florida to take advantage of the warmer climate and outdoor activities.

Dr. Rashid joined Health First Medical Group in 2000. His professional interests comprise diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, large and small intestine, colon, gall bladder, pancreas, and liver. Dr. Rashid treats such issues as inflammatory bowel disease, hepatitis C, GERD or severe indigestion, colitis, Crohn’s disease, colon cancer and polyps, and other digestive-related symptoms. He utilizes ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) that combines the use of endoscopy and fluoroscopy to assist and diagnose treatment.

In addition to spending time with his family, Dr. Rashid has many activities he enjoys. His hobbies include jogging, reading, astronomy, and photography.
