Dr. Brandes earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM and his Doctor of Osteopathy from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA. He completed his Medical Internship with Oakland General Hospital in Madison Heights, MI and his Family Practice Residency at Tucson General Hospital in Tucson, AZ. His Preventive Medicine/Public Health Residency was completed at The Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, recipient of the John C. Hume Masters of Public Health Award.
Dr. Brandes most recently worked as a family practice physician at Heritage Family Practice in Fairfax, VA. He was also serving his community as a volunteer physician with Hope Clinic. Before that, he worked as a physician with Booz Allen Hamilton in Rockville, MD and with IMPAQ in Columbia, MD. He has also worked as a physician for the Department of Public Health in Howard County, MD, with Health Alliance for Patients in Need in Columbia, MD and with Flagstaff Family Practice in Flagstaff, AZ. Dr. Brandes also served our country as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Navy Submarine Development Squadron Twelve, Groton, CT.
